From Wangari Maathai
Background: This month’s quote is from Wangari Maathai, a Kenyan environmental and political activist and founder of the Green Belt Movement, an environmental non-governmental organization focused on the planting of trees, environmental conservation, and women’s rights. In 2004 she was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for “…her contribution to sustainable development, democracy and peace.” She was an elected Member of Parliament and served as Assistant Minister for Environment and Natural Resources. Wangari Maathai died of complications from ovarian cancer in September of this year.
“Every one of us can make a contribution. And quite often we are looking for the big things and forget that, wherever we are, we can make a contribution. Just imagine what can happen if there are billions of people out there doing something. Just imagine the power of what we can do.” ~ Wangari Maathai
